NSW Treasury was honoured to host the most senior business delegation to Sydney in the history of our bilateral relationship.
NSW hosts the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Economic Mission to Sydney
Over 70 senior executives of Japanese corporations formed the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Economic Mission delegation to Sydney led by Dr Akio Mimura, Chair of the Japan-Australia Business Cooperation Committee.
The delegation was welcomed by the most senior levels of the NSW Government with Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Minister Ayres emphasising the strengths of our continuing partnership.
Senior NSW Government officials delivered customised briefings on key investment opportunities across the state. Updates on the Sydney Innovation and Technology Precinct, Westmead Health and Education Precinct and the Western Sydney Aerotropolis were well received by the delegation.
The Japanese business community occupies a significant role in the NSW Government’s vision of A Metropolis of Three Cities. Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Hitachi and Urban Renaissance Agency are foundation partners to the Western Sydney Aerotropolis.
‘This was an excellent opportunity to engage with corporate Japan – the second largest source of foreign direct investment for Australia. This program is sure to generate significant commercial leads from Japanese firms looking for opportunities to participate in greenfield place-making projects. NSW has a lot to gain from the Japanese city-building experience and technology’ commented Peter Knight, NSW Trade and Investment Commissioner in Tokyo.
