Renewable energy construction company Signal Energy won contracts to build two solar farms less than a year after setting up in Sydney.
Signal Energy is a recent entrant to the Australian renewable energy market. The company is a leading contractor for utility-scale renewable energy projects in the US. It provides engineering, procurement and construction services, and has built large-scale solar and wind farms across the US and Canada.
Australia is Signal Energy’s first market outside North America. The company wanted to capitalise on a growing need for solar engineering and construction services as Australia continues to shift to renewable energy sources. It was also drawn by the ease of doing business in Sydney, according to Robbin Russell, General Manager at Signal Energy Australia.
“There’s no language barrier, and the basic laws and legislative structures are more similar to the US, compared to other countries,” says Russell, who relocated to Sydney from the US.
